The biggest allure of choosing Missouri is that we can build our own house using materials from the land without any government oversight. Most of the country would require us to get permits, pay impact fees, hire contractors who dramatically overinflate the cost of construction, and be forced to choose a pre-designed layout that doesn’t let us live the way we want.

Eventually we’ll have a bunch of houses, workshops, and storage buildings where we can house us and all of the hippie friends we meet along the way, but when we first arrive in Missouri we’ll build a 2-story, 3-bedroom house for all of us to live in together. The building will be 16 x 32 with the first floor consisting of a spacious living room, dining room, laundry room, and half-bathroom while the second floor will consist of three bedrooms and a full bathroom.
